An image of a chimney

We were exhibiting at the National Association of Chimney Sweeps trade show when one of the Directors of the association, Ron Clark, asked if we could make something for him.

He had a ladder accessory that he’d designed and had made for him by a local blacksmith out of steel. “It works great but it weighs a ton, can you make it out of aluminium for me?”.

We borrowed it for a few days and converted the design to suit the materials we had available to us and returned his original item.

At the following trade show, we surprised him with his new lightweight aluminium version, and he was delighted. He was even happier with the name, Ron Clark’s Ladder Rest.

The concept was simple: provide something to keep a ladder in place to stop it sliding down the roof slope when the ladder is placed against the back of a stack part way down the roof. It needed to be light, strong, adjustable in length to cater for variations in roof pitch and stack height and be easy to store. It seems we got it just about right for most applications.

Like all chimney sweeps and stove installers, he was constantly finding new problems he needed to overcome, and this ladder rest, used in conjunction with our existing Adjust Abil ladder helped in more ways than we could ever have imagined. With so many variations of chimney stacks and so few products for the sweeps and installers to choose from, we are proud to have been able to serve their industry for so many years.
